3 Mexican Restaurants

Fort Worth Texas RestaurantLos Vaqueros Restaurant, located in the Northeast section of Fort Worth, Texas, first got its start on N. Main Street on February 11, 1983.  Today, there are two locations in Fort Worth and one in Weatherford.  All restaurants are run by family members and have a loyal following.

Founders, Jonny and Kiki, first met as co-workers in a Mexican restaurant.  It was love at first sight and they were married after a short courtship.  Two sons were quick to follow and were nick named “the two little vaqueros”.

Johnny worked at several country clubs and Mexican restaurants over the years in Fort Worth.  In 1979, he and Kiki opened their first restaurant.  They became so popular that they had to look into expanding their business as they had long lines of people waiting to eat their delicious food.

Los Vaqueros has made an amazing history for the family with memories galore.  Using handed down family recipes, they have put themselves on the map as one of Fort Worth’s best authentic Mexican restaurants.  Just look at the reviews on the internet.  There are over seven hundred of them giving them a four plus star rating.

Joe T. Garcia’s, located at 2201 N. Commerce Street, opened their doors to a sixteen-seat restaurant on July 4, 1935.  Along with their five children, Joe and his wife, Jessie, worked hard to make fresh tortillas and Mexican food for their clientele.Fort Worth TX Restaurant

Soon they were feeling the need to expand the restaurant and added a pool and cabana area as well as a patio.  From there, almost every year they have added onto the restaurant with a larger dining area, expanded patio and a party room.  Today, the seating capacity is well over one thousand!

Sadly, Joe passed away in 1953.  Jessie knew she needed help, so she asked her youngest daughter, Hope, to take over Joe T. Garcias.  Hope happily agreed and brought her seven children in to run the Joe T. Garcia’s with the same passion as her parents.

Hope and her children began to expand their restaurant with new ideas and jobs to include all family members.  They opened a bakery, Esperanza’s Bakery and Café across the street.  Their success is truly and American Story of the entrepreneurial kind.  They have almost three thousand four hundred positive web posts.  They are open seven days a week so be sure to check for their open times before you head over there.

Luna’s Tortilla Factory was the dream of Maria Luna.  A single parent, Maria raised her family upstairs as she ran the tortilla factory downstairs.  She used local women to crush her corn, so she could form it into tamales and tortillas.  She eventually moved the tortilla factory to another location and it is now run by her grandson and son.

Recognized as a “historic Building”, Luna’s Tortilla Factory was remodeled in 2012 to put in the Meso Maya Comida Y Copas restaurant.

Today, Chef Nico Sanchez, creates magic in Meso Maya Comida Y Copas’ kitchen making both traditional and updated Mexican dishes.  Nico was only nine when he fell in love with the culinary arts.  Working in the kitchen of a bakery he not only assisted in the kitchen he also did deliveries.  He traveled Mexico working in several restaurants honing his skills with seafood and creating sauces from scratch.

The atmosphere and history of Meso Maya Comida Y Copas has clientele returning again and again.  They have garnered over two hundred and thirty reviews online, so you know you cannot go wrong when eating there.
