You have formed your corporation, found your commercial site for your business and now you are in the process of accumulating the required licenses. Sit down because there is going to be a lot of paperwork involved in obtaining the right licenses for your business.
If you are going to be serving alcohol, you will need to get a Liquor License. There is a pretty extensive check list you must comply with before you can get a Liquor License. The City of Las Vegas Department of Planning, Business License Division has Form PL002 to get you started.
It will outline all of the requirements that need to be met depending on how your business is formed. Are you a corporation or a Limited Liability Corporation? Do you have multiple layers of your business? If so, be sure to have all of that paperwork at your fingertips.
For example, if you are a corporation, you must be able to provide them with the following documents:
- Who are the stockholders that have more than a 10% share of the corporation? Who are the people who work in the business on a day to day basis?
- Get your list of directors and officers that you have on file with the Secretary of State.
- Be sure to have copies of your most recent financial statements.
- If you are a publicly traded company, submit your most recent Annual Report and or Form 10-K that is filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
- If applicable, submit an organizational chart of any companies that are related to this company.
- Lastly, your Articles of Incorporation.
There will be other requirements such as a birth certificate, a passport photo, United States Military Discharge Form (if applicable), and a current copy of your driver’s license or an Identification Card that is State-issued.
Then you get to fill out the Personal History Form PL125. Be sure to have your Certificate of Business Fictitious Firm Name that is a filed stamped copy. Get your Nevada State Sales/Use Tax Permit among other items.
If you are going to serve food, provide a complete copy of your menu. Have your Special Use Permit as well as your health Permit/Health Card. Each employee who handles the alcohol must sign an Alcohol Awareness Card.
Don’t forget the fees! The one hundred dollars for an initial processing fee is just the beginning. There are Origination and license fees that are based on the type of license. If you are requesting a temporary license, the fee is five hundred dollars. The Las Vegas Metro Police Department has a one-hundred-and-fifty-dollar fee for anybody who is being investigated and a two hundred privilege license fee. That is per privilege license.
It is important to note that not all of the Southern Municipalities have the same requirements. It is why most people use The Taylor Consulting Group. Nathan Taylor and his crew have been working with businesses who need a Liquor License navigate the ins and outs of obtaining it. His team of professionals will make the whole process not seem do daunting.
